MESSAGE FROM CULTURAL FACILITATOR

The following information is to give members some insight into the Cree Culture Camp.

We are approaching year 3 of bringing this to our community. This year it will be held at Island View from Monday July 15, day of arrival and departing on Saturday July 20. There will be 3 days of teachings, workshops and celebrating who we are as Cree People of the Moose River Basin.

We came up with the name: New Beginnings – Journeying Together.

VISION:

We, the Missanabie Cree recognize our ancestral roots since time immemorial and believe in restoration and reclamation of our Mushkegowuk ways of knowing and being to live a good life. We vision this as New Beginnings on a Journey Together.

MISSION:

With the guidance, knowledge, and wisdom of Muskegowuk Elders, Wisdom & Knowledge keepers, we will plan and implement learning opportunities based on our Mushkegowuk values. We will do this through journeying together in learning opportunities based in our traditional territory.

The planning committee is well underway in creating the agenda and securing workshop leaders.

To coincide with the budget to provide transportation, accommodation, and meals, registrations will be capped. This information will be provided in the next Bearfax.

In the next Bearfax I will report on what we have provided to date at the Culture Camps.

We hope to see new faces and welcome back those who have attended the previous camps.
